Welcome to pantsonhead.com - the thing that is beauty to all that behold her. The wearing of pants on one's head is the most liberating of experiences. We recommend you try it at the earliest opportunity. Better yet, take a photo and send it in for our gallery.
Yesterday I took a small stack of old games to the local retailer to trade them in. The trade in rate was pretty good and in the end I only had to pay £1.10 to pick up a copy of Gutar Hero 5 with the guitar controller (which I also wanted to use with RockBand Beatles).
On top of that, I was able to pick up a free copy of Guitar Hero World Tour since I was “purchasing” Guitar Hero 5.
I was very pleased with the result. Special thanks go to the sales assistant who also helped me get a 10% discount by getting a store loyalty card.
At the moment I am halfway through reading Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and I’m really enjoying it, so it was a nice surprise when a friend showed me this fantastic musical tribute to the man and his work. An excellent effort from colorpulse who made it.
A musical tribute to two great men of science. Carl Sagan and his cosmologist companion Stephen Hawking present: A Glorious Dawn – Cosmos remixed. Almost all samples and footage taken from Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and Stephen Hawking’s Universe series.
Last week I posted how useful I’d found the wired SingStar mic’s USB adaptor to be outside of the SingStar game. Writing that post got me thinking about the old PS2 controllers and how useful these could be. Like many PS3 owners, I wasn’t keen to shell out £35 on a second wireless controller and purchased a PS2/PS3 USB adaptor. This works pretty well on Little Big Planet or any other games not reliant on SIX-AXIS motion.
Because I had purchased this adaptor for the PS3, it had not occured to me before now to try plugging this USB adaptor into my PC. I tried this today and was pleased to see it automatically install as “HID-compliant game controller” on both XP and Vista. The next thing I did was fire up TrackMania Nations Forever on the hunch that it would be fun to play with a game controller. The controller was instantly recognised although all actions seemed to be assigned to the buttons on the left side of the controller. I prefer steering on the left and acceleration on the right, so I went into the Inputs configuration.
About a year ago, before I took the plunge to buy a PS3, I bought a copy of SingStar for my PS2 along with the wired microphones. These microphones connect to the console via a USB connector and are 100% compatible with the PS3 versions of the game.
Although SingStar is a fun game (even if you’re not vocally gifted) and has had some great recent releases like SingStar ABBA and SingStar Queen, recently I’ve found these microphones to be very useful outside of the game itself.
I keep one of the microphones on a boom microphone stand beside my desk and use it to talk with other players in games like Burnout Paradise. The sensitivity of the mic just about perfect for only picking up the sounds you want it to pick up. The official PS3 headset is annoyingly oversensitive with background chatter or game soundtracks often bleeding in. Thank God for “Mute Player”.
I saw this on a friend’s site and thought I’d have a bash at it – I’m nowhere near as well read as I’d like to be, so I thought it would be interesting if I could actually get to 15 and what shockers the list might include. I decided to only include books that I’ve actually finished reading.
Don’t take too long to think about it. 15 books you’ve read that will always stick with you. They don’t have to be the greatest books you’ve ever read, just the ones that stick with you. First 15 you can recall in no more than 15 minutes.
About a year ago I posted an article about creating an image using RSS + GDI. It featured a fairly simple example that was not always appropriate for the text contained. Today I revisited the concept and produced the following image which feeds off the latest BBC News Headlines.
Activity Sparks is a highly customizable widget to display a sparkline style graph in your sidebar indicate post and/or comment activity. This WordPress plugin leverages Google’s Chart API, so does not require the PHP GDI library. Customization options include Title, size, colour, background transparency, activity granularity and period.
Since one of the plugins we wrote when we moved the site to WordPress was so handy, we decided to release it so other WordPressers could use it too.
RandomText is a handy WordPress plugin that allows you to save, edit and delete categorized text, and inject random text by category into the sidebar (via widget) or pagebody (via template tags). Whether you want to display random trivia, quotes, helpful hints, featured articles, or snippets of html, you can do it all easily with RandomText.
This weekend I moved pantsonhead.com onto the WordPress platform. The move involved writing a couple of custom plugins, but was otherwise a fairly painless process. Now we have a fresh new look and I’ve added a bunch of images to the gallery. Enjoy
Cineworld was showing the Blues Brothers movie on the big screen on today. It may not be world-class cosplay, but dressing up for the occassion was not an opportunity to be missed. I didn’t have the authentic gear but grabbed the sunglasses for 99p at the “99p shop” and got the tie for £1 at a charity shop. Since the cinema is nearby I walked most of the way – I caught a few drivers smiling when they saw me walking past – I don’t mind making their day a bit happier When Hugh arrived he issued me with a fedora for the evening which finished off the look nicely.
