Stadium of Dreams – Sonuus i2M musicport

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

I received a sonuus i2M musicport for Christmas 2011 which has proven to be a great tool for getting the creative juices flowing. Here’s the first recording I created using it to record guitar and MIDI parts in GarageBand using my late 80s strat.

Sunrise video

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

I found an old .m4a file of this track that I wrote years ago (when I was in my “synth” phase). The original files are long gone, but I managed to convert this back to wav/mp3 and threw together this video with some screen captures from Winamp’s Milkdrop plugin.

Carl Sagan Cosmos Tribute

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

At the moment I am halfway through reading Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and I’m really enjoying it, so it was a nice surprise when a friend showed me this fantastic musical tribute to the man and his work. An excellent effort from colorpulse who made it.

A musical tribute to two great men of science. Carl Sagan and his cosmologist companion Stephen Hawking present: A Glorious Dawn – Cosmos remixed. Almost all samples and footage taken from Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and Stephen Hawking’s Universe series.

Insomnia

This isn’t exactly new but it is on of the projects that I’ve been working on lately. I’ve finally been getting some recording done and for this particular track I put together a video. It’s pretty rough and has a bad art-school kinda vibe, but it is something to look at with the music.

How To Get Things Finished

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

One of the trickiest things about the creative process is knowing when you’re done.

A good idea can be spoiled by taking it too far, or by not developing it to a point where it is accessible by it’s audience.

In the past I’ve been guilty of spending so much time on trying to get everything just right that I’d often lose enthusiasm and interest in a project before it was finished. The combination of perfectionism and borderline ADD generally means only the best ideas survive. I guess this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

In February 2008, I decided it was time to “just do it”. Rather than being paralysed by getting everything perfect, I decided to start producing recordings to a listenable standard, release them on a website and invite feedback. This would challenge me to keep creating/finishing things and allow me to share my music with anybody interested.

Musician’s Page

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Don’t die of shock, yes this is an update. I’ve been super busy with work, family, playing in the band, writing and recording music, and life in general. I know this is the first update since 2005-08-13, but I can’t go back and un-neglect you… So as some sort of apology I’ll link you to my Musician’s page.

Glass Half Full

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Here’s a “music video” for a piece I wrote and recorded in March 2008. The video is just a stream of nice landscape images which are supposed to be calming and make you feel good.
